“Thank you so very, very much! I’m truly at a loss of words right now. I am so grateful for your help to my family. This will definitely help my stress level to go down to allow me to focus on my health and taking care of my family‚Ķ”

How We Started

Help Our Wounded (HOW) was founded by Rosie Babin in 2009 to help severely wounded military members, and those who care for them by providing direct aid, resources and support. While there are many resources for veterans, the needs of severely wounded veterans and their caregivers are more complex.

HOW acts as a resource for the emotional and medical challenges facing caregivers. In addition, we coach and educate caregivers and soldiers as they navigate the complex rules and paperwork required to obtain help from the DoD and other agencies.

We’re proud of our decisive and effective contributions to help the wounded soldier get back on their feet, find hope, connect with resources and embrace a happy, but new-normal lifestyle.

The HOW Difference

With numerous organizations dedicated to veterans, it’s important to know why HOW is so effective and unique.

  • We were founded by the mother of a critically wounded soldier. We understand the obstacles to finding help, the daily realities of caring for those with severe disabilities as well as the financial and logistical difficulties.
  • We provide significant and swift emergency support to wounded soldiers and their families. We deliver grants to those in financial distress, sponsor sports and athletic activities and connect soldiers with meaningful employment and careers.
  • We’re a lean organization that relies on HOW volunteers where possible and connects directly with those who need help, keeping our administrative costs low.
